Modern Apprenticeships

Information Communications Technology (ICT)

MAPS offer a range of Foundation and Advanced Modern Apprenticeships in Information Technology, these include both technical and administrative apprenticeships.

Technical ICT apprenticeships will have an emphasis on hardware or software. Apprentices working with hardware will be involved with the installation of hardware components, which will include building new PC’s, computer upgrades, repairs, network installation and maintenance, communication systems and technical support. Apprentices focusing on the software side could be involved with software installation or software development.

In addition to the NVQ qualification, which is gained through work-based assessment, there is also a requirement for Advanced Modern Apprentices to study for an approved ICT qualification, (usually at a local college), such as BTEC or City & Guilds. Key skills also have to be completed at the appropriate level.

For apprentices who spend most of their time using computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, database entry, and graphics or e-mail then an administrative apprenticeship would be followed with the key component being the NVQ in “Using IT”.

Minimum entry requirements for technical Advanced Modern Apprenticeships will usually be 4 grade C GCSE’s including Maths.
