Modern Apprenticeships

Engineering

MAPS offer both Foundation and Advanced Modern Apprenticeships in a wide range of Engineering disciplines. These include:

  • Electronic Servicing
  • Assembly
  • Machining
  • Electrical
  • Design and Technical Services
  • Maintenance
  • Fabrication and Welding

MAPS Modern Apprenticeship programmes are tailored to meet the aspirations of the apprentice and the needs of the employer. There is a wide range of qualification options to choose from depending on the specific engineering path being followed.

Engineering apprentices will normally attend a local college on a day release basis to study for an approved technical qualification, such as a BTEC or City & Guilds. In addition to formal college courses, in-house training courses in specialist disciplines are used where appropriate e.g. hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems. Key skills at the appropriate level are also completed.

Minimum entry requirements for the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship will usually be 4 grade C GCSE’s including Maths. It is not unusual for candidates who wish to pursue a career in advanced technical work such as design, to enter this programme with A levels. Foundation Apprentices work towards an NVQ level 2 instead of level 3. Entry qualifications for the Foundation Apprenticeship can be lower than grade C GCSE.
