NVQ Level 4 in Children's Care Learning and Development - Programme Overview
What is an NVQ?
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ'S) are developed from National Occupational
Standards that are based on typical childcare job roles within the care sector. NVQ's are
work based qualifications that assess the individual's competence to do a job. NVQ's
differ from more traditional qualifications in the following ways:
- There are no formal entry requirements
- Participants are not required to have any prior qualifications to achieve the Award/
Certificate
- Participants are principally assessed on their ability to do the job, rather than by means
of Examinations
- Assessment is via a Portfolio of Evidence
- Award/Certificate's can be gained using a variety of assessment methods
- They take into account previous experience
- They allow individuals to work at their own pace
- Assessment is undertaken, where possible, in the work environment by MAPS
- Each unit can be achieved individually as a Unit of Credit; the full NVQ is awarded when the required number of units have been achieved
Who can do this
qualification?
The NVQ Level 4 in Children's Care Learning and Development is suitable for Nursery
Deputies, Nursery Managers or for anyone who is looking to further develop their
childcare competencies in preparation for a senior role. This is work based Programme
and participants are required to be within a childcare setting that enables them to
evidence competencies based on the national standards at Level 4. An NVQ level 4
takes approximately 12-18 months to complete.
How does it benefit
you the employee?
As well as giving you the opportunity to develop new skills, the Children's Care Learning
and Development NVQ provides you with a better understanding of your care role and the
environment in which work. It also enables you to gain nationally recognised
qualifications, which will serve as a solid foundation for career progression and the
achievement of higher level qualifications.
How does it benefit
employers?
It enhances the skills of employees, thereby improving performance in the workplace. It
also boosts the motivation and confidence of the employee and provides an independent
measure of performance against national standards. It generates tangible performance
outcomes by increasing employees' skills and supporting existing training and
development to lead to enhanced child care provision.
How much does it
cost?
It may be possible to fund this qualification via Overview funding provided by the
government. To access this funding criterion must be met. All administration is
undertaken by MAPS training and there is no charge to the participant or employer unless
the participant is not eligible for funding.
